Alex Larenty demonstrates just how much trust he and the 550lb lion place in each other as he hugs him and spruces up his mane with a brush. The British keeper said it has taken six years to form the relationship which allows him to interact so casually with Jamu, an eight-year-old male. Mr Larenty, who looks after 75 of the big cats at The Lion Park, near Johannesburg in South Africa, posed for the photograph just weeks before a man broke into the reserve and was mauled to death by some of its lions.

We are pleased to announce we have found a new Bear on eBay who is hopefully coming to join us at the end of the auction. The Bear, who comes from Wellingborough in Northamptonshire, is described on the site as being “scruffy”. The cheek of it, he is a handsome little devil and there is nothing “scruffy” about him at all.

The Bears were a little shocked this morning to hear the story of the lady who got a little confused at a level grossing and turned down the railway track in her car. You see, the Bears always have a nice little routine to their day. They get up at 9.20 just in time to watch their hero Jeremy Kyle shouting at some teen father who is not pulling his weight and looking after his child and/or girlfriend. While Jeremy is on, the Bears usually relax with a nice cup of tea and their now infamous Jammy Toast. What most people don’t know about them is, they also like to read the paper to see what is going on in the world.

Ellsworth Bear is having a change of heart since he arrived at the Bear Sanctuary last week. When he arrived he was a little upset about some of the language the other Bears use. He also he felt that it was inappropriate for Bears to sit around all day eating Jammy Toast and watching Daytime Television.

We received an email last week from one of our readers asking what we thought about Steiff tagging Teddy Bear’s ears and did we think it was cruel. For those of you who do not know, ever since Steiff started making Teddy Bears they have always put a tag in the Bears ear as a trademark. The German Teddy makers have been producing Bears for over a century and has been tagging the Bears as a mark of their quality all this time.

Yesterday afternoon I was sitting in my Lazyboy chair reading the Sunday Paper when I came across a rather interesting article. The Sunday Mirror was reporting that next year will see the Fortieth Anniversary of man first setting foot on the moon. I remember as a child watching the old black and white images of Neil Armstrong making his; “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”.
