Ego, watching the world go by Razzi and I left for work this morning knowing we had a little mission to accomplish today. We had another one of those Red Cards from Royal Mail to tell us they had tried to deliver a Bear while we were out yesterday. We only had until 11am to pick the Bear up otherwise the sorting office would be closed and the poor little Bear would be there for the whole weekend. We had a lesson running until 11:30am so we would need to get Charlotte to drive us to the sorting office.
It is not very often that we are shocked on this blog. Our Bears have suffered every imaginable abuse from owners who just do not want them anymore, but this story has taken us aback. Yesterday, we received an email from a young lady who has an abusive boyfriend. This boyfriend not only gives her a hard time but also her Bear who she loves and has had for many years. She told us, “I think he is jealous of my Teddy Bear. What can I do?”
Here on the Bear Blog we do not usually comment on anything to do with news or politics unless it affects our Bears directly. However, following what we have heard, we thought we just had to comment on the latest celebrity tittle-tattle. As everyone who reads this blog will know, The Bears love watching X Factor and we have to admit to having a soft spot for Cheryl Cole. Even when X Factor contestants are awful, she still attempts to be positive and lighten the blow of rejection brought about by Simon Cowell’s biting remarks. For that reason alone, The Bears have taken her to their hearts, not to mention, Razzi thinks she is a bit of a babe.
The continuing story of Mystique erm… continues. We installed the new version 2 of our WordPress theme last night and we are happy to report there seems to be very little wrong with it. Razzi and I got in from work tonight and Edward told us there is another update fixing some of the bugs in version 2. By the time we came to check it, there was an update to the update. Therefore, we are still working on updating the theme when we initially thought we had finished.
We have had a new Bear join us today by the name of Eddington. Now you may think that sounds like a rather strange name but he did choose it for himself. He arrived this morning and decided he would like to come for a ride in the car with Razzi and I. While he was fastened into the back, Razzi explained that he would need a name and it would have to begin with the letter “E“. After giving it some thought he decided to knock the letter “B” off Bebington and make it Ebington but Razzi said it would sound better with a “D”. So they added a “D” and came up with Eddington, which we all agree does have a certain ring to it.
Rebecca asked yesterday why I sometimes end posts with the line about being careful out there. The line comes from the 1980s cop show Hill Street Blues. Every week the programme started with roll call where Sergeant Phil Esterhaus gave everyone their instructions for the day. He always ended roll call by telling all the police officers… and hey, let’s be careful out there!
The latest version of Mystique, our WordPress theme, is now installed and appears just the way we want it. Most of the changes are on the backend and invisible to blog visitors but behind the scenes, the changes are quite widespread. For visitors, you may notice we have made the blog slightly wider and there are new features we have disabled until we have more time to experiment with them. There is an annoying black strip along the top of each page, which we are currently looking at, but otherwise we cannot find any other bugs.
Mystique, our WordPress theme, is due for a major new release very shortly so tonight we will be experimenting with a pre-release version of the new theme thanks to Milenko over at digitalnature. Therefore, for tonight, there will be no post while we experiment with latest version of the theme. We will be changing some of the settings and appearance of the blog so please do not panic if you view the blog and it looks a little strange – that will just be us trying the new settings out. We will be back as normal tomorrow, so just chill until then.
Today has been a busy day for The Bear Sanctuary with the purchase of two Bears and the discovery of a third. One Bear who is definitely joining us is from the Highlands of Scotland and although he was priced a little higher than normal, we thought we should just buy him straight away as he is still in his original polythene bag. That means he has spent over 10 years stuffed inside a clear polythene bag. He has now been purchased and we even paid extra to get him sent to us as quickly as possible so we can end this Bears suffering!
