Over the years, The Bear Sanctuary has saved many Bears from an uncertain future. We have Bears from all over the country and one or two from overseas. We have a couple of brothers and we have a brother and sister but we have never had twins, until now!
The story of the extradition of our friend Gary McKinnon has taken another turn after Theresa May has asked for the case to be put on hold. The new Home Secretary wants more time to consider the issues of the case. The Conservatives and Liberal Democrats were both sympathetic with Gary’s plight while they were in opposition, so now is the time for them to act.
A man, whose name we are not going to mention here, has admitted using Facebook to abuse kids over a five-year period. He admitted in court yesterday to 27 charges of inciting sexual activity, grooming and distributing indecent images. He also admitted voyeurism and possessing indecent images of children.
Two months ago, we told of the sadness amongst The Bears at the death of Harry Carpenter, the boxing commentator. That day, back in March, was a day for sadness and morning here at the Bear Sanctuary. However, yesterday was a day of laughter as friends and family gathered to remember his life at a memorial service held in his honour at St Bride’s in London’s Fleet Street.
A new report undertaken by the National Wildlife Research Centre in Ottawa and the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg has revealed that the Arctic environment is changing. Longer periods of ice-free seas are creating problems for Polar Bears at the southern Arctic area. These Bears are highly adapted for hunting on sea ice and thought they are very “opportunistic” where food is concerned; they are not equipped to cope with longer ice-free seasons.
We mentioned two weeks ago that Razzi was facing growing concerns over the safety of his personal data held on Facebook. Since they changed the privacy settings last December, it means that unless Razzi spends a long time reading hundreds of settings and/or reading their 45,000 word Privacy FAQ, his personal data is left open to anybody.
The Bears are ready to enjoy some more sun today as temperatures are expected to rise to 28C, which is hotter than on the Mediterranean. By contrast, Turkish resorts, were our Friend Jade is currently staying, are forecast to only be 25C, while the Greek Islands will only reach 23C and Italy around 24C. Manchester is set to be one of the warmest places in the country while here at the Bear Sanctuary it will be a little cooler. Because we are near the coast, we will be prone to some cooler sea breezes and maybe even some mist clouds.
Most of The Bears feel today is too hot for blogging. No one could be bothered to think of anything to blog about and many of The Bears refused to move out of the sun. As far as we are aware, Bears do not get sunburn because their fur protects them from the sun. Therefore, they are lazing around the Bear Sanctuary soaking up the rays while the sun is out.
