BearTube

Up until recently, The Bears loved YouTube and have been ardent followers of the site for a few years. Many happy hours have been spent watching music videos and laughing at some of the crazy antics of people who post videos on the site. Although officially, you were not meant to post copyright music or film/television clips no one cared if you did. The copyright holders couldn’t be bothered chasing people to remove clips because as soon as one was taken down ten more would appear.

…and then Google bought out YouTube and everything changed!

Google have lots of money and vast resources at their disposal so now all of a sudden everything has changed. Copyright holders can threaten Google with legal action if they don’t remove their copyright owned material.

So now Google spend vast amounts of resources removing copyright material from the YouTube site. One day you can watch a video and really enjoy it and the next it has gone only to be replaced with a sign saying; “Video has been removed following a copyright claim from…”. This was brought to a head recently when we went to play some of our favourite videos only to find that most were no longer available!

To combat this we set Edward to work to find an alternative so we do not need to rely on YouTube… he has come up with BearTube and we all love it!
