Here is one of the chimpanzees that sparked a major police operation after escaping from Twycross Zoo on Thursday morning. Families were turned away from the gates after the chimps attempted their daring break-out at 9.35am – just 25 minutes before the zoo opened. It took staff two hours to calm the cheeky primates down before coaxing them back into their enclosure with ice creams and fizzy drinks.

One of Jammy Toast’s favourite characters maybe re-born despite denials from the son of the show’s creator. John Sullivan’s estate has denied there are plans afoot to resurrect his 70s sitcom Citizen Smith. The denial came after its star, Robert Lindsay, said he had been “chased” by a TV company with “a fantastic idea” for updating the show. He told the Independent the new show would see his “urban guerrilla”, Wolfie Smith, running for the Labour Party. But Jim Sullivan, son of the show’s late creator, said a revival was “not something we would want to do.”

How do you rescue a thousand pound polar bear trapped in a fishing net? You untangle it. Well, actually, it’s pretty complicated, especially when it’s located in a remote Arctic location. Late yesterday US Geological Survey and US Fish and Wildlife Service biologists, with help from the local community of Kaktovik, successfully freed a large male polar bear that was entangled in a fishing net on a small barrier island in the Beaufort Sea off Alaska.

The group that brought Antony Gormley’s Iron Men to Crosby beach is to open a special exhibition marking the installation’s 10th anniversary. Regenerus – formerly South Sefton Development Trust – is staging the Ten Years of Another Place event at Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre on Monday. The exhibition, which runs until 1st November, is one of several events. The statues should have gone to New York in 2006 but the council allowed them to remain as a tourist attraction.

It’s that time of the month again when we ask everyone who visits Jammy Toast to just “Talk Shit” for the day. We just ask that people leave comments on just about any subject they choose. Funny or sad, true or false, real or fake; we don’t give a shit as long as it is entertaining and doesn’t really hurt anyone. We usually do this kind of thing when we are too busy to post anything else – and everyone seems to like the freedom to whine and bitch. The rules are pretty simple to explain – basically, anything goes!

Iam the oldest bear here at Jammy Toast and have a reputation for being a grumpy old bear. I am not really grumpy but things are just not the same these days as they used to be and I am not usually slow at coming forward to complain about it. I can remember the days when we only had three channels to watch on the television and yet there always seemed to be something on worth watching. These days we have literally thousands of channels and there is very little worth watching. What happened to the days when I actually got excited when it was announced we were to get a fourth nation channel and even more excited when it was announced that the television was going to continue broadcasting after midnight.
