Yesterday we got well and truly pissed off with JustHost. Over the weekend, we had The Bear’s Blog taken offline because we were exceeding their server resource limits. These resource limits are hidden away in their terms and conditions and they state that you cannot use more than your fair share of the resources available on the shared server you are using; because it is not fair on the others sharing your server. This is fair comment and we have to agree with them but, to stop this happening again in the future, could they tell us how to keep a check on the amount of resources we are using?
We have completed importing all the previous posts which originally appeared on the Queen’s Blog, the Blogger version of the Bear Blog, then the Original WordPress Bear Blog and all has gone well. All posts are now in place, although there is still some work to do getting them to display in their correct Categories/Tags. We will also have to resize many of the graphic files manually because they are oversized for the new theme.
We are planning on importing all the posts and comments from the old blog over the weekend. This job will either be very easy and take half-an-hour or be a complete pest and crash the current site. We have tried this out using a test site and all went well, so hopefully there will be no interruption to the blog’s uptime. However, if you do visit the blog over the weekend and anything appears weird or the blog is down, please do not worry, we will have it back online as soon as we can. Hopefully this will not happen and everything will import smoothly.
Think of a television programme that is as English as tuppence. Think of one programme that you love in England but just wouldn’t work in any other country. Remember the Office? Did you ever see how bad the American series of The Office was? Well now try and think of a programme you think would be even worse if it was ported over to American television…
We were saddened today to hear of the death of Gerry Rafferty. The man responsible for one of our favourite songs, Baker Street, died at the age of 63 after suffering a long illness. During his life he had struggled with a drinking problem and spent time in hospitals suffering from liver failure as a result of his drinking.
Today we have some exceptional news to share with those of you who do not already know. Paul Abbott’s critically acclaimed, offbeat drama about the rollercoaster lives and loves of the dysfunctional Gallagher clan is set to return next week. Yes you read that correctly – Series 8 of Shameless is back on our television screens on Monday, 10th January at 10pm. The new series features 22 brand new episodes and will also see the show celebrating its 100th episode during the season – episode 18.
If, like us, you are fans of the hit lifeguard documentary; Bondi Beach, you will be pleased to hear they are currently making a new series. The new season was filmed over Christmas and New Year and is now in post-production. It will be shown in Australia in February but we are not sure of the UK date for airing.
It seems like most of you found the new Blog yesterday and, judging by the comments; seem pretty pleased with the results. As we explained to one or two of you yesterday, and in print on yesterday’s post, not all of the profiles are working yet but we are working hard to get everyone’s profiles farmed out to Gravatar. Once this is complete, we will reveal how the new system works and you can edit your own profiles and change pictures, etc. We have nearly 300 to port over to Gravatar so please be patient with us. On a positive note we did manage to get everyone who commented on the blog yesterday sorted out with an avatar!
Happy New Year and welcome to the New Bear Blog. Hopefully most of you received the emails we sent out last night and have not had too much difficulty finding us. Some of the emails were returned as “undeliverable” and we shall try our best to contact those people and let them know our new address. If you are aware of anyone who is missing please let them know our new details but please do not post it all over the internet.
