When I think back to all the concerts we have been to over the years probably one of the most memorable was Arlo Guthrie in Manchester. I first heard Arlo “singing” Alice’s Restaurant Massacree many years ago and he had become a bit of a folk hero around Jammy Toast because of the song and its anti-establishment sentiments – then we heard he was playing a one-off concert in a small club in Manchester so we made sure we got tickets and heard Arlo do a modernised version of Alice’s Restaurant. T he other day we featured the story of Alice’s Restaurant which, judging by the feedback, many of you seemed to enjoy. With this in mind, we thought we would do some research and see if we could come up with anything else of interest concerning the Alice’s Restaurant Massacree or any of the characters involved. The one person who struck us as being of interest was Police Officer William “Obie” Obanhein, who was the man responsible for arresting Arlo Guthrie and giving him the inspiration to write the song.

Iwas talking to Eddie and Miss Chimpton the other day when I happened to mention Alice’s Restaurant. Much to my amazement, neither of them knew what I was talking about. Later, I started thinking that not many people these days would know about Alice’s Restaurant, so I thought I would enlighten you all with the tale. I shall use twenty-seven 8×10 colour photographs to highlight the story and they will all have circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one is.
