Okay hands up if you hate Jazz. Yes, that’s everyone – including us. Except… we have started coming round here at Jammy Toast to something called Nu Jazz. While we admit it is not for everyone, if you are willing to give it a whirl it is great late at night when there is bugger all on the telly. It’s chilled, it’s mellow and is like the kind of music they play in hotel lounges to entertain guests. The term Nu Jazz was coined in the late 1990s to refer to music that blends jazz elements with other musical styles, such as funk, soul, electronic music and free improvisation. Nu Jazz also ventures farther into the electronic territory than does other flavours. One of our favourite bands from this genre is The Bahama Soul Club.
