Here at Jammy Toast, when looking back at 2016 there is one thing we will remember it for – death. It’s been held up as a particularly gloomy year for celebrity deaths. But has the Grim Reaper really claimed the souls of more notable people than usual in 2016? David Bowie, Prince, Harper Lee, Alan Rickman, Nancy Reagan, Muhammad Ali, Sir George Martin, Victoria Wood, Leonard Cohen… For their admirers, 2016 has been a sad year. So we thought we would look back and try and work out if there was anything unusual about the number of well-known people dying, as many on social media had been claiming.

One thing which we humans have to worry about and teddy bears don’t is just what happens to us when we die. For years I have heard stories of near-death experiences where people see bright lights and just as they are about to enter into the light they are brought back to life. Too many people say the same thing about near-death experiences for it to be something which someone has made up or dreamt. So just what does happen when we die, does anybody know?

Have you ever wondered what happens to your Facebook Profile after you die? Would you like a friend to continue using your account for you as a memorial to your life or would you rather have it permanently deleted? You may soon get your wish as Facebook has added a new setting that gives users these options when you die. There was pandemonium at Jammy Toast this morning as Razzi and I were not due out until 11 and so were enjoying a nice little lie in. Meanwhile, while we slept, the bears were eating the morning portions of jam on toast when it came on the news that Razzi was dead. There was wailing and crying from all over the gaff, so much so that Razzi got up in his little teddy bear onesie to see what all the hubbub was about. As soon as he walked in everyone looked round in shock wondering what on earth was going on. How could the BBC be reporting that Razzi was dead when he was here at Jammy Toast in his onesie?

AGrizzly Bear has claimed another life in Yellowstone National Park. The female Bear was with her cubs when Brian Matayoshi and his wife Marylyn stumbled across them along the Wapiti Trail. Park Rangers say it was a one in three million occurrence that the Bear charged the pair, which resulted in Brian being fatally mauled. Miraculously, Marylyn survived after the Bear attacked her grabbing hold of her rucksack and throwing her in the air. When she landed she played dead which is probably what saved her life.

Everyone here at the Birkenhead Bear Sanctuary read with alarm this morning of the death of Dale Fleckner. He was just a teenager like many others spending a Sunday afternoon kicking a ball around with his mates. Then the ball goes onto the track and he volunteers to fetch it. Dale climbs onto the railway-tracks between Rock Ferry and Green Lane, 5 minutes away from the Bear Sanctuary, and accidently touches the live rail.
