Since we decided to restart Jammy Toast people have been asking us how it all started and more importantly why. It is always fun looking back and trying to discover how an otherwise normal, sane and sensible person like myself (*cough*) suddenly decide to start a retirement home for Renault Bears? How was it that we suddenly decided to spend hours searching the world for unwanted Renault Bears and bringing them here to Jammy Toast to spend the remainder of their days watching daytime telly and eating their favourite food? I think it is a story worth re-telling, so this is how it all started…
Since we decided to restart Jammy Toast Edward is busy going through all the old posts which we haven’t looked at for a long while. How was it that we suddenly decided to spend hours searching the world for unwanted Renault Bears and bringing them here to Jammy Toast to spend the remainder of their days watching daytime telly and eating their favourite food? Egypt is a beautiful country with some beautiful people. We bears hold the country in very high esteem, in fact; without Egypt there might never have been a Jammy Toast. That is the country in which Eddie first befriended Davidd and Miss Chimpton. However, despite the beauty of the country and all the happy holidays we have spent there, it has never been at peace. There is always trouble brewing just beneath the surface. One year when we went they blew up the Hilton Hotel just down the road along with another hotel in the tourist capital of Sharm El Sheikh. Many of the hotels have armed guards at the front doors to stop extremists from gaining entry.
We have answered this question before but every time we get new friends here at Jammy Toast they ask the same question. How did we first start rescuing Renault Bears? It all began one Christmas back in 2006 when I was planning a holiday to Egypt. My daughter and I were all packed and ready to go when a friend of ours, Mr Tony ‘Yummy’ Banks, told us that his teddy bear had never been on holiday. In his whole life his bear had never ventured far from his home in Liverpool. After explaining to us disbelieving sceptics that his bear was his best friend, he asked if we would take him with us as a special treat for his bear because he had been very well behaved that year and deserved a treat.
If you cast your mind back to June, we had a few problems with the blog and couldn’t post for a little while. We were also distracted because we were getting ready to go on our holiday to Egypt. Well, just before we went we had a new arrival join us from Avonmouth down in Bristol. Today that Bear came up to me and said; “Davidd, can I have a name please, I think you have forgotten about me”.
We are back from Egypt. We had a wonderful time myself and my Chimpton daughter along with Razzi and Eddie. The holiday didn’t exactly start off in the best way as we had booked four tickets for the VIP Suite at Manchester Airport. It does get annoying in public when people keep coming up and disturbing the Bears asking for autographs and so we thought we would treat ourselves to a quiet wait in the VIP Lounge. We sat their enjoying the fresh coffee and the free WiFi and, of course, keeping an eye open for our flight on the board. I was beginning to get a little worried when 30 minutes before our flight was due to leave we still had not been called. I was just about to go and enquire about this when up on the board came our flight number and the “This Flight Is Now Boarding” message.
Well, as you can see, we are all back home from our little Egyptian journey. Unfortunately, just before we went away for our little holiday, we had a problem with a compatibility issue between the new WordPress upgrade and our WordPress Theme. Our theme is made by those great people from the Spectacu.la WP Themes Club and while we were away sunning ourselves in temperatures approaching 45 degrees they were hard at work solving our problem. The updated theme is now installed and the problem is now in the past… thanks guys!!
It looks like one of our Bears is missing again. He was posted First Class last Wednesday and still hasn’t arrived today. He was only posted from East Riding in Yorkshire so it’s not like he has far to come. Razzi even said today it would have been quicker if he had walked as he gave the Postman one of his hard stares! Hurry up little guy, wherever you are, we’re all dying to meet you!
