One of our favourite films of the 1980s has to be Blade Runner. The film is based on the 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K Dick. It tells the story of a dystopian LA of 2019 in which genetically engineered replicants, which are visually indistinguishable from adult humans, are manufactured by the powerful Tyrell Corporation to work on other planets instead of humans having to do the work. Some of these replicants escape and return to Earth and are hunted down and “retired” by special policemen known as Blade Runners. The story focuses on burnt-out expert Blade Runner Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), who reluctantly agrees to take on one more assignment to hunt down a group of recently escaped replicants led by Roy Batty (a young Rutger Hauer). During his investigations, the film begins to question is Deckard human or is he also a replicant?
