Back in 1975, Radio City employed a then unheard of – at least by us – DJ by the name of Phil Easton. He started an evening radio show at 6:30 each week day called The Great Easton Express. On this show he featured all the news and sounds in rock music and it became essential listening each evening. The show ran for twelve years culminating each year with a Battle of The Bands competition at the Liverpool Empire Theatre. In 1988, with the popularity of rock music in decline, he moved on to other things and finally ended up presenting the City Talk Breakfast Show every day. He died in 2009 at the age of 59 after suffering a suspected brain haemorrhage at his home. In his memory, here at Jammy Toast, we have decided to resurrect one of our favourite features from his show where he would select a favourite album and then feature his three favourite tracks from that album. Today we would like to feature

There is nothing more we love here at Jammy Toast than listening to some of our favourite tunes. From time to time we will post a music video from an artist or genre that we think will be enjoyable to you; our friends. We often feature music that you may not have come across before, or music that maybe you just missed the first time around. Try and listen with an open mind, you never know, you may find something you can add to your iPod. If you have any music videos you would like us to feature then drop us a line – we are always happy to listen to requests but we cannot promise to feature everyone’s favourite…

One of Jammy Toast’s greatest friends has died only two days after learning he had cancer. Motorhead frontman and former Hawkwind member Lemmy passed away after a short battle with a very aggressive cancer. Lemmy joined Hawkwind in 1972 and sang on their biggest hit single Silver Machine before being sacked following his arrest for drugs possession on a Hawkwind tour of America and Canada. He went on to form Motorhead – the name is US slang for someone who takes speed – in 1975 and recorded 22 albums, including Ace of Spades, as he became one of music’s most recognisable voices and faces.

One of Jammy Toast’s favourite rock bands has just finished their latest tour, forty-four years after their first foray in the music business. Space Rock pioneers Hawkwind are currently promoting the re-release of their classic 1975 album; Warriors on the Edge of Time. Many things have changed in the music business over the years but Hawkwind, who have gone through many line-up changes and incarnations of style, have stuck pretty much to their guns. The band has never sold out to success and many times even turned their backs on fame and fortune to stay true to their beliefs.

Today we are going to attempt to kill two birds with one post. The first bird is to pay tribute to former Hawkwind Guitarist Huw Lloyd-Langton, who died earlier this month. The second is a little bear by the name of Edward who has been working on a new project behind the scenes; namely cross-platform video. For some time now we have been trying to find a video solution to allow everyone who visits Jammy Toast to view our videos, no matter which device they are using. Up until now, it has only been possible for people using a PC or certain tablets/smart phones. Edward has now installed a new video system which works on mobile devices – even smart phones, with a Flash fall-back available for those on systems or using browsers which do not support the mobile formats.

Everyone here at Jammy Toast is devastated today to learn of the death of former Hawkwind guitarist and all-round nice guy Huw Lloyd-Langton. Huw had been fighting a two-year battle with cancer but was determined it was not going to affect his day-to-day life. A Hawkwind statement announced; “It is with immense sadness that we have to let you know our great friend of many years and fellow musician Huw Lloyd-Langton passed away peacefully last night.”
