After we featured our story yesterday about Mercedes the Polar Bear’s move to the Highlands, we got an email from Aaron Sneddon. Aaron is a UK Press Photographer and was selected to accompany Mercedes from Edinburgh Zoo to the Highland Wildlife Park in Kincraig. He was the sole photographer allowed on the trip and he has made the photographs he took available to The Friends Of The Bears prior to them being released to the newspapers tomorrow.
Did you know we have a Polar Bear who lives in Britain? Her name is Mercedes and she lives in Edinburgh Zoo and is the only Polar Bear in this country. For the last 25 years she has lived at Edinburgh Zoo but is to be moved to a four-acre enclosure in the Highlands, the largest of its kind in Europe. The £300,000 enclosure — that’s the size of four football pitches — will recreate the natural environment of the Bear’s Canadian home and will include a large natural swimming pool. There will also be a public viewing platform on a hill overlooking the bear’s new home.
