Hello everyone and welcome to my column. I haven’t written anything for quite a while but after reading the news recently about California’s “revenge porn” laws I thought I had to comment. For those not in the know, “revenge porn” is naked pictures of an ex- boyfriend or girlfriend who finishes with you so you publish personal pictures of them in revenge. The state was originally planning to make it illegal to post pictures even with that person’s consent. However, prosecutors would have to prove “the intent to cause serious emotional distress” and that the other person actually “suffers serious emotional distress”. First offenders could expect up to six months in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both.
