Jammy Toast favourite Ricky Tomlinson, who played Jim Royle in the Royle Family, has claimed late Countdown presenter Richard Whiteley worked for the security services. Ricky made the bombshell claims after relaunching a pub in Chester where, back in 1972, he helped organise the first national building workers’ strike. Ricky, a former plasterer, and one of the so-called Shrewsbury pickets later faced a trial which saw him jailed. He now fronts an ongoing campaign to clear their names as alleged victims of a political conspiracy.
One of Jammy Toast’s favourite Telly stars, Ricky Tomlinson, choked back tears as he paid a heart-breaking tribute to his beloved pal Caroline Aherne. Ricky, who played Caroline’s layabout dad in The Royle Family, was left reeling after cancer claimed the comedy star at the age of just 52 yesterday. He said: “I’m so bloody shocked. She was absolutely wonderful and amazing to work for. Kind, funny, witty. A true professional and one of the most generous people I ever worked with.”
Everyone here at Jammy Toast has been devastated today to learn of the death of Caroline Aherne Denise Royle. The star and writer of The Royle Family and The Mrs Merton Show had suffered from cancer since she was first diagnosed with lung cancer two years ago having earlier being diagnosed with bladder and eye cancer. She was also the narrator of another Jammy Toast favourite, Gogglebox and had previously appeared in The Fast Show.
