The Plight Of The Vegan

Spanish version of a vegan meal: tomatoes and raw onions.

Here at Jammy Toast we do not dislike many foods or have any special dietary requirements. However, we are aware that eating out for many vegans and vegetarians can be a major problem as Chimpton is a vegan and we have witnessed first-hand her struggle to find vegan foods when eating out. She even sticks to her principles despite our many offers of; “Go on, have a Maccies. We won’t tell anyone.” Nevertheless, we couldn’t help but laugh at the plight of one vegan who ventured abroad and wanted a vegan meal.

Gabbie Jarvis, 17, told us on Twitter of her 19-year-old sister Georgina’s difficulty while on a family holiday near Malaga in Mallorca. The teen, from Leeds, said: “We were out to dinner as a family. A member of staff came out to greet us and my dad asked if they catered for vegans. The man claimed they did. Georgina originally ordered a vegetarian pizza with no cheese but serving staff came out and told us shortly after that it had egg in it and she should look at the salads. When it arrived, me and Georgina shared awkward eye contact and I couldn’t help but laugh.”

Yes, if you look at the picture above, it is a plate filled with raw onions and tomatoes.

Gabbie quickly snapped pictures of the moment on her phone and shared them on her Twitter, where they’ve since been retweeted more than 9,000 times and ‘liked’ more than 40,000 times. The big question is how much did the meal cost them – the girls say about €7 – and did Georgina managed to eat any of it?

Her sister spilled the beans: “Georgina has been a vegan for three years and she usually has a good selection of foods to choose from when out in restaurants in the UK. She is used to eating raw vegetables and she was hungry so she ate it all but asked for a bread roll to accompany it (no butter).”

When one person replied on Twitter: “I mean, it is vegan. What’s the problem!?” Gabbie replied: “It’s raw tomatoes and onions on a plate, what isn’t the problem?”

Here at Jammy Toast we would just like to add one wish… We hope she brushed her teeth soon after eating all of that raw onion!

    1. Hiya Ray. I know a number of vegans who dont eat honey. As for me if its in food I will eat it. I dont eat meat etc because Im an animal lover. Im not as strict as some as some wont even wear wool. Guess its all down to personal preference. 🙂

  1. Ewwwwww. I feel her struggle. On one particular holiday in Tenerife over the Xmas period. I went out for xmas dinner and they reassured me they would cater for my dietary needs.
