Tonight we would like to wish everyone a happy new year and hop that you all have a wonderful time. Here at Jammy Toast we will not be wandering far as we are all dying with a mystery coughing bug which we cannot shake. We have had it since before Christmas and it is getting to the point now where we are getting headaches because we are coughing that much. The only problem with me and the bears living in such close proximity to each other is that we spread germs and diseases around very easily – hence we have all come down with the dreaded lurgy.

Anew survey suggests that a large number of teddy bears use social media websites and travel on holiday with their adult companions covering on average over 10,000 miles in their lifetimes. This proves that although most people start the relationships with bears while they are small, many carry that relationship into adult life. However, the biggest surprise revealed in the survey is that men are twice as likely to set up a profile for a teddy bear friend, online.

One of Jammy Toast’s greatest friends has died only two days after learning he had cancer. Motorhead frontman and former Hawkwind member Lemmy passed away after a short battle with a very aggressive cancer. Lemmy joined Hawkwind in 1972 and sang on their biggest hit single Silver Machine before being sacked following his arrest for drugs possession on a Hawkwind tour of America and Canada. He went on to form Motorhead – the name is US slang for someone who takes speed – in 1975 and recorded 22 albums, including Ace of Spades, as he became one of music’s most recognisable voices and faces.

Spare Another Thought For Santa

We first posted this tale of Santa last year, but it is always worth giving Father Christmas a second thought. By now he will be back at the North Pole and hopefully enjoying a good rest after what must have been the most hectic of night’s work imaginable. No one works harder than Father Christmas or travels further in the name of work. We set Einstein the task of working out some of the figures involved and the results are quite startling. If you assume that Santa visits all the homes of all the Christian children in the world and that the average household has three children and that all the houses are evenly distributed around the world then Santa travels 212million miles.

John Cleese Revives Basil Fawlty

John Cleese has revived his famous hotelier Basil Fawlty but only for a TV advert, 36 years after Fawlty Towers closed its doors. Cleese has recreated the 1975 scene in which a frustrated Fawlty berates his broken down car before giving it a “damn good thrashing” with a branch from a nearby tree. Cleese agreed to rewrite the scene for Specsavers opticians as he thought it would be “genuinely funny”. The ad sees Fawlty lose his patience with a sat-nav and take out his anger on the wrong target – a police car.

It has become a little bit of a Christmas tradition here at Jammy Toast that each year we like to watch The Snowman. Every year we like to sit down and enjoy the story by Raymond Briggs but, because it is getting quite old these days, it never seems to feature on the Christmas telly listings. To us, it is the highlight of Christmas Day and so it would appear it is to others also as the film was voted 4th in UKTV Gold’s Greatest TV Christmas Moments.

When we started this whole bear thing off nine years ago we could never have imagined how we would end up with so many Bear Friends. As each year passes I keep thinking that people will drop off and things will die down but each year, as people move on and we lose contact, new friends seem to appear. Other friends have been here right from the beginning and never seem to tire of visiting us here at Jammy Toast. However, to all our friends, old and new, we would just like to say…
