Great Uncle Bimbo wrote in his column yesterday about our time spent at New Ferry Swimming Baths during the school summer holidays of our teenage years. The baths are long gone – a housing estate now sits were we used to swim – but there are plenty of stories floating around the internet from people who used to swim there during the same period. The Wirral also boasted another swimming baths on Byrne Avenue in Rock Ferry. We were never that keen on these baths because you had to pay by the hour and once they called your number you were unceremoniously kicked out onto the street. Not like New Ferry were you paid your money and you were in for the day. Suddenly, after reading about New Ferry Baths yesterday, I remembered a third swimming baths that I doubt many people will remember now – Livingstone Street.
