It was a stormy morning in Festive Road. I was waiting for the pelting rain to stop and the skies to clear and then I was planning on going for a walk. To the costume shop, perhaps. In the shop I thought I would let fate decide which costume to try – I just span around and pointed. The shopkeeper’s eyes twinkled and I took the intriguing costume into the changing room. Could it be a pirate’s outfit?
Festive Road is thronging with blood-curdling cries and triumphal shouts today – the children are playing cowboys and Indians. I had been reading about a cowboy film at the cinema and so I decided to take a stroll to see it. When I got to the cinema, there was such a queue that I had a better idea – the costume shop and a cowboy outfit. Once I got there, the shopkeeper happily handed me the costume and invited me to try it on.
The sun is shining in Festive Road and children are listening to sea-shells. I am at the riverside, watching the boats go by. The water seems to hold a world of adventures in it and it starts me thinking of the costume shop. I set off to the shop and find a red frogman’s outfit. Perfect – with this I can dive under the sea and explore this watery world.
The children were playing in Festive Road and I could hear the sound of laughter. As I looked out of my window, I could see a girl juggling, while another had on a funny mask and I thought, what fun it must be to make people laugh. I set off for the costume shop and a clown’s costume with a bright red nose.
Festive Road was as busy as ever. I was not in my house at number 52, instead, I was in the garden talking with some of my neighbours. We were discussing the relative merits of our lawns – surely my immediate neighbours grass was more green and lush than mine, I was saying. I decided to take a stroll in the park, and when I see a kite soaring up into the blue beyond, my mind turns to the possibilities of adventures in space.
