There is nothing we love more here at Jammy Toast than listening to some of our favourite tunes. From time to time we will post a music video from an artist or genre that we think will be enjoyable to you; our friends. We often feature music that you may not have come across before, or music that maybe you just missed the first time around. Try and listen with an open mind, you never know, you may find something you can add to your iPod. If you have any music videos you would like us to feature then drop us a line – we are always happy to listen to requests but we cannot promise to feature everyone’s favourite

“Flowers in December” is a song by American alternative rock band Mazzy Star, released in 1996 as the lead single from their third studio album Among My Swan. It was written by Hope Sandoval and David Roback, and produced by Roback. “Flowers in December” was a minor hit on the UK Singles Chart and a music video was filmed to promote the single, directed by Kevin Kerslake.

Upon release, Music & Media picked the song as their “single of the week” during November 1996. They commented: “David Roback and Hope Sandoval’s dreamy acoustics have become even more poppier with gorgeous melodies, plenty of minor chord changes and a delicate violin whispering in the background.”

In a review of Among My Swan, Chris Molanphy of New Music Monthly commented: “…amid Hope Sandoval’s wispy voice and David Roback’s plinking guitars, there’s a brightness trying to emerge. You hear it in the chimes that ring over “Disappear,” and in Sandoval’s wistful harmonica on “Flowers in December.” In a 2013 retrospective on the band’s career, Emily Mackay of New Musical Express considered the song “lovely”.

    1. She has her own band these days – Hope Sandoval And The Warm Inventions. She also sings with Massive Attack now and again AND Mazzy Star reformed a couple of years ago and made a new album.

  1. Love Mazzy Star stuff.

In other news my shaky hands that I inherited from my father means I have burnt myself twice in three days. FFS I think I must of been one of Lucifer’s concubines in a past life!

  2. sometimes I wonder where I get my big gob from and then I saw my mum take the horn off my daughters unicorn birthday cake and while waving it in my face she goes “ay this looks a bit like a dick yeno”.
