am short, yellow and cuddly and I spawned a legion of fans in love with my nonchalance and exceedingly flat head. My head-banging, finger-tapping style swiftly became the brightest star in ad-land after my debut in 1999 alongside my rather melancholic pal Angel. I was promoting Levi’s Sta-Prest jeans in a spot devised by my friend Quentin Dupieux, the French Partisan film director, DJ and electro artist who is also known as Mr Oizo. With the nation’s hearts won over, the track that accompanied the ad, topped charts across Europe. The campaign began as a one-off burst of three ads, but public response was so overwhelming that Levi’s brought me and Angel back for a six-week encore in August and September that year that saw us dodging the police and getting squashed by a giant hot dog.
