Hear ye, hear ye, hear ye. Now this second day of February 2020 – 02 02 2020. The 134th annual trek of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club. Punxsutawney Phil, the sear or sears, prognosticator of all prognosticators was awaken from his burrow. To the cheers of thousands upon thousands of his faithful followers from around the world. In Groundhogese, Phil directed the inner circle to his prediction scroll which reads… “It’s a Phil fantastic day in these beautiful woods, thousands and thousands in the Knob neighbourhood. You faithful followers are the best it’s true, who wouldn’t want neighbours just like you? Now my forecast on a day, that’s a palindrome, will cause some to cheer and some to moan. So do I hope you think it’s neighbourly because there is no shadow of me – spring will be early, it’s a certainty!”

Thousands of his fans gathered this morning at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, to watch the famous groundhog deliver his highly anticipated weather forecast. The one and only Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his burrow around 7:30am and did not see his shadow thus predicting an early spring. A member of Phil’s Inner Circle read from the groundhog’s prediction scroll to cheers and applause from the masses, “Faithful followers, there is no shadow of me and a beautiful spring it shall be.”

Cooling off in a pool, Hampstead Heath in London.

Here in Britain we are experiencing the hottest summer since 1976 according to modern records. Heathrow had sixteen consecutive days over 30°C from 23rd June to 8th July and for fifteen consecutive days from 23rd June to 7th July temperatures reached 32.2°C somewhere in England. Furthermore, five days saw temperatures exceed 35°C. On 28th June, temperatures reached 35.6 °C in Southampton, the highest June temperature ever recorded in the UK. The hottest day of all was 3rd July, when the temperatures reached 35.9°C in Cheltenham.
