Last weekend saw this year’s Southport Airshow with a packed schedule of displays across the three days. This year’s show saw a display featuring the Red Arrows on Friday night and across the weekend there was an exciting show featuring the RAF Typhoon Fighter, the world’s only flying Bristol Blenheim and probably the two most iconic planes to ever be flown by the RAF – a pair of Spitfires and an AVRO Lancaster Bomber (pictured above).

    1. Mainly because that “machine” put the Great in Great Britain. If it weren’t for that machine and the Spitfire you would probably speak with a German accent.

  1. I am an old man and have never been in our armed forces or even flown in an aeroplane. Neither do I have a mechanical bone in entire body but I just love that bomber. The sound of its Merlin engines often reduce me to an emotional wreck for what that machine did for out country.

  2. There was nothing worth watching on TV yesterday and, as it happens, there’s nothing worth watching today either so it’s back to the seaside… now where’s my bucket and spade?
