Around fifteen years ago, my ex-wife and I were starting down the road of splitting up and getting a divorce. Nothing nasty, we just both realised that now the kids were all grown up we had nothing left in common. She was a very sensible person with a career while, as most of you know, I am the biggest kid around. I wouldn’t say it was anybody’s fault, we just drifted apart. We decided to go to Orlando that year on holiday which – overall – was a mistake. Chimpton and I are very similar and will laugh and take the piss out of anything which the ex-wife didn’t always appreciate. She spent the whole holiday moaning about the music we liked, the radio station we listened to, where we went, what we did and anything else she could think of to complain about.
Chimpton and I wanted to visit Miami and in particular South Beach. It was a four-hour drive and so the ex-wife didn’t want to go but didn’t want us to go either. So, one day, just to prove how childish we were, Chimpton and I snuck out of the hotel and drove to South Beach listening to the radio station that the ex-wife had complained about every time we got in the car.
We were free for the day.
When we got to South Beach, we discovered that the road that ran alongside the beach was called Ocean Drive. Chimpton and I both loved the Lighthouse Family and Ocean Drive was one of our favourite songs. We both enjoyed the most peaceful, enjoyable day of the holiday – even if Chimpton did insist on lathering sun-tan cream all over my face!
Unfortunately, the song was written by keyboard player Paul Tucker about the drive from Roker Pier, Sunderland to Ocean Road, South Shields and has nothing to do with Miami; but why let the facts get in the way of a good story.
Chimpton and I never did live on either Ocean Drive but this song still reminds me of that day.
Don’t forget, if you have any music videos you would like us to feature in the future, drop us a line. We are always happy to listen to requests from others, we cannot promise to feature any but we will try our best to find the videos if we think others will enjoy.
