There is nothing we love more here at Jammy Toast than listening to some of our favourite tunes. From time to time we will post a music video from an artist or genre that we think will be enjoyable to you; our friends. We often feature music that you may not have come across before, or music that maybe you just missed the first time around. Try and listen with an open mind, you never know, you may find something you can add to your iPod. If you have any music videos you would like us to feature then drop us a line – we are always happy to listen to requests but we cannot promise to feature everyone’s favourite

“No Rain” is a song by American rock band Blind Melon. It was released in 1993 as the second single from the band’s debut album Blind Melon. The song is well known for its accompanying music video, which features the “Bee Girl” character. The music video, directed by Samuel Bayer, received heavy airplay on MTV at the time of its release. It subsequently helped propel Blind Melon to a multi-platinum level.

Although the song is credited to the whole band, it was bassist Brad Smith who wrote the vast majority of “No Rain”. He said: “The song is about not being able to get out of bed and find excuses to face the day when you have really, in a way, nothing.” At the time, Smith had been dating a girl who was going through depression (she would sleep through sunny days and complain when it didn’t rain), and for a while he told himself that he was writing the song from her perspective, though Smith later realized that he was also writing about it himself.

The music video stars Heather DeLoach as the “Bee Girl” – a young tap dancer wearing a homemade bee costume and large glasses, modelled after the Blind Melon album cover: a family picture of Georgia Graham, younger sister of drummer Glen Graham. The Bee Girl’s story is intercut with footage of Blind Melon performing in a field against a clear blue sky.

The video opens on the girl’s tap routine; the audience responds with mocking laughter, and the girl runs off stage in tears. As the song plays, she wanders through Los Angeles, stopping to perform her dance for whoever will watch, but still feels alone. Ultimately – at the point in the song where the word “escape” is repeated – she peeks through a gate, which provokes a look of astonishment on her face, then runs through it to join a group of “bee people” just like her, dancing joyfully in a green field.

The group toured extensively in support of their album, performing dates in Europe and Mexico; supporting such acts as Neil Young and Lenny Kravitz late in 1993. Their activity the following year included a performance at Woodstock ‘94 in August and a supporting slot on the Rolling Stones’ Voodoo Lounge Tour thereafter. Amidst rising success, the band began to experience personal and legal problems related to drug and alcohol abuse, leading to multiple stints in drug rehabilitation for singer Shannon Hoon.

Against the advice of Hoon’s drug counsellor, Blind Melon went on tour to support their second album. The band initially employed a counsellor to assist Hoon’s rehabilitation, but he was soon dismissed. After several weeks on the road, Hoon was found dead on the band’s tour bus of a heart attack caused by a cocaine overdose, on 21st October 1995, in downtown New Orleans.

  1. Men on social media do my fucking head in with their “send me a pic that’s not on your Instagram” comments. How about you send me some fucking money that isn’t in my bank account ye big danger.

  2. Do not let them take your temperature when you enter a supermarket. It’s a scam! They are erasing your memory. I went in for bread and milk and i came out with a crate of Stella and 6 bottles of wine.

  3. Thanks to everyone who tagged us into the footage of the seagull stealing crisps from the UK’s poshest Greggs. Sorry if we can’t find the funny side while the killer is still on the loose!

  5. By the off chance my family ends up sending me to an early grave before the year ends i would like to make it very clear that boogie nights is my favourite film ever.

  6. Ron came to see me yesterday. He’s got a cat of his own at home and he chases it everywhere. He can’t do that with me because I don’t run away, I just sit and stare at him. If he gets too close to my face I try to smack him. Dorothy taught me to do that. Ron is cute, isn’t he?

  7. Happy Monday all… just waiting for breakfast and I hope it’s not lumpy porridge, I’d much rather have eggs Benedict & smoked salmon or a silver pouch of happiness.

  8. If you were a bird, and lived on high,
You’d lean on the wind when the wind came by,
You’d say to the wind when it took you away:
“That’s where I wanted to go today!”

  9. Stayed an extra night at my mums… got an awful lot to do to get the kids to school in just over an hour. So naturally, I’ve come on Jammy Toast.

    Good morning.

  10. Little GT is off his food, which is very unlike him. Will try and get an appointment to take him to the vets before the lockdown stops everything. Cobweb, Teaser and GT don’t understand lockdowns .

  11. Rolf report 2 Nov

Just waking up from a long sleep in my cat bed on Dr Claudia’s desk. The humans think I must have been having sweet dreams as I am making biscuits in the air. Claudia is there to give me cuddles as I emerge from my slumbers. Life is good.

  12. So we’re going into a second lockdown this week & with the shorter days & dreary winter weather this may make this one seem tougher, but you/we CAN do this, even if it doesn’t seem that way at the moment. Be kind to yourself & one another.

    1. I remember in me old house I used to order from the same place loads and the delivery driver started sending me Easter and Christmas cards. Wonder if he misses me?

  13. Off down Aldi for the big shop. I shall decline to pay at the checkout, citing article 49 of the Magna Carta which clearly states:

“No Freeman of the Land shall be forced to part with cash in any branch of well known German supermarket situated north of Bristol”.
