Today is my birthday and I am beginning to get on a bit. So-much-so that The Chimpton takes great delight in calling me an old dodderer. But during our more serious conversations she has stated that she worries about me because of my weight. She doesn’t want me to kick the bucket in case she ends up being deported back to Vietnam – for those of you who do not know, she was a Vietnamese Boat Child. Most people can tell by her slanty eyes, but The Chimpton fled Vietnam as a very young child to escape the Vietnam War and was held in a refugee camp until I adopted her and brought her home – a story for another day. So if I die, there is a chance she might be sent back. However, today I have some great news for her – and me – it turns out, some extra pounds later in life can actually be protective. It’s something scientists have deemed the “obesity paradox”: being overweight correlates with a lower risk of death for older individuals than their skinny counterparts.
Today, everyone here at Jammy Toast would like to wish Ananasty a very happy twenty-first birthday. We have known Ananasty since she was seven years old but during that time we feel certain she has learned many wonderful things. However, the biggest thing she needs to learn is whenever you give Davidd your laptop to fix, make sure you don’t leave any embarrassing videos on it!!
We have been waiting with baited breath for the latest update to our WordPress theme “X” as it was promised to be a big one. Version 2.0 has now been released and sees two major areas of improvement; firstly there is a new stack available and secondly “X” now includes megamenus. There are also many areas of improvement and much of the theme’s code has been “minified” and the way scripts load improved to offer quicker loading times for our readers. In additional there are many updates and bug fixes that have greatly streamlined the way many processes are handled by “X”. Although many of these have more to do with the backend, they do go a long way to improve the way “X” loads and works.
Normally on Sundays we have our Musical Fun Day. However, this week we felt it was timely to wish someone special a Very Happy Birthday. We don’t normally do birthday wishes because we have quite a few friends and we would get inundated with requests. However, this time it really is for a special occasion. Ananasty is twenty today but unfortunately she is spending the day trapped in a hospital in Manchester miles away from all her friends and family which – as you can imagine – is an absolute bummer.
Today we would like to wish Bob Dylan (pictured above) a very many happy returns of the day. Oops sorry, hold the presses. That is not Bob Dylan it is our very own Bearkeeper; Mr Davidd. In that case it must be his Birthday today and so we would like to wish him a many happy returns instead. As you can tell from his picture though, he did once have a pretty big Bob Dylan fixation and so it was an easy mistake for us to make. For quite a few years he hid behind this Dylanesque hairstyle before having an accident with a blunt pair of scissors.
Today we would like to wish somebody very special a very happy birthday. Today is none other than Miss Chimpton’s birthday. She is getting a little old these days and a tad frayed around the edges, despite all the products she slaps on her aging body. It is difficult to imagine but it is now ten years since I first picked her up from the orphanage where she had stayed since arriving in England from Vietnam. Being one of the original Vietnamese Boat People could not have been easy for her. However, those days are now behind her as she arrives at her thirty-ninth birthday.
Today is a bit of a special day for us bears because our friend Anastasia (aka Ananasty) is eighteen. Although she has not always been the best behaved on the bear blog, it is always worth remembering that it was Davidd and her who started us off blogging in the first place. Who would have thought how far this blogging thing would go when the pair of them started, that eventful Sunday afternoon back in 2006.
