The Derby Match

Things are getting tense here at Jammy Toast as the bears get ready to watch tonight’s Merseyside Derby. The game is being shown live on BT Sport and we will all be sitting around shouting for our favourite team. Although most of the bears are Tranmere supporters there is nothing we like more than settling down to an exciting game of football and they don’t come much more thrilling than the Merseyside Derby. What makes it even more exciting this year is that both the teams are playing so well on the fringes of the top four Premier League places.

The game is at Anfield where Liverpool are unbeaten in their last eight Premier League home matches, scoring at least twice in all of those games, and Everton are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League away matches. So something will have to give tonight. Meeting head-to-head at Anfield; Liverpool are unbeaten in the last 13 Premier League Merseyside derbies while Everton’s last away win their came way back in 1999.

In fact, Liverpool should be pretty confident against anyone at Anfield, where they have lost just one of their last 20 games. If the Reds still consider themselves to be in the title race as Brendan Rodgers maintains, then what about Everton? Just a point worse off than Liverpool, Everton’s season has perhaps been the better story, however impressive Liverpool’s season has been. The manner in which Roberto Martinez has changed Everton’s style, without losing any of the sheer bloody-mindedness that was a feature of the team under David Moyes, must already have made him a contender for manager of the season. If Everton were to finish in the top four or win the FA Cup, then Martinez would have a very strong case.

So are we going to make a prediction for the game? It is a tough game to call as are most derby matches where the form book tends to go out of the window. However, here at Jammy Toast we think that having Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge will be too strong for Everton this time out.

Either way, it should be a really exciting match!
